A Word from the Vine No. 103: What Are You Filling Your Head With? Guarding Your Mind

Welcome back, dear friends, to another enlightening episode of "A Word from the Vine." In this three-part series titled "What are you filling your head with?" we have been exploring the importance of being mindful of the information and entertainment we consume. Today, in our second episode titled "Guarding Your Mind," we dive deeper into the influence of what we watch on our thoughts, attitudes, and behaviors.

Our scriptural reference for today comes from Philippians 4:8, where the apostle Paul encourages us with these words: "Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things."

These verses provide a clear guideline for our entertainment choices. As followers of Christ, we are called to set our minds on things that are true, noble, and praiseworthy. We must carefully consider the content we allow into our lives, as it has a significant impact on our thought patterns and ultimately, our character.

Let's take a moment to reflect on the types of media we often engage with. Are the movies and TV shows we watch promoting values of truth, justice, and purity? Do they reflect the love and compassion of Christ? Or do they glorify violence, immorality, and selfishness? These questions are essential for us to consider as we guard our minds and protect our spiritual well-being.

While it is not inherently wrong to enjoy entertainment, we must approach it with discernment and wisdom. We can choose movies and shows that inspire us, encourage us in our faith, and portray wholesome values. We can seek out stories that challenge us to grow, that shed light on important social issues, and that promote love, forgiveness, and reconciliation.

As we navigate the vast sea of media options available to us, let us remember the words of Philippians 4:8. Let us strive to fill our minds with that which is true, honorable, just, pure, lovely, commendable, excellent, and praiseworthy. By doing so, we actively guard our minds against the negative influences that seek to infiltrate our thoughts and hearts.

In conclusion, dear friends, let us be intentional in our entertainment choices. Let us choose media that aligns with God's values and uplifts our spirits. May the content we watch be a source of inspiration, wisdom, and joy, drawing us closer to our Heavenly Father and reflecting His light to the world around us.

Join us in our next episode, where we will explore the importance of listening to God's voice. May He bless you abundantly as you guard your minds and set your hearts on things that bring glory and honor to His name. I'm Pastor Loren Christensen.
