A Word from the Vine No. 108: The True Foundation

Good morning, beloved followers of "A Word from The Vine," where we explore important topics that affect our church community. I'm Pastor Loren Christensen. In this first episode of three, we will delve into the theme of the influence of major donors and how it can impact the true foundation of our church. Let us open our hearts and minds to God's Word as we seek wisdom and understanding.

Have you ever wondered how the influence of money can shape the direction and priorities of our church? It is important to remember that our foundation is built upon the teachings of Jesus Christ, and our decisions should be guided by His Word. However, sometimes external factors, such as major donors, can subtly sway our focus away from the true purpose of the church.

Let us turn to Matthew 6:24, where Jesus reminds us, "No one can serve two masters. Either you will hate the one and love the other, or you will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and money." These words hold profound significance for us today as we explore the impact of money within our church community.

Major donors, with their substantial financial contributions, undoubtedly play a significant role in supporting our church's ministries and initiatives. We are grateful for their generosity and the opportunities it affords us. However, we must be cautious not to allow their influence to overshadow our commitment to God's calling.

It is easy to be seduced by the allure of money and be tempted to shape our church's direction based on the preferences and desires of major donors. Yet, as disciples of Christ, we must remember that our ultimate allegiance is to God, and our decisions should align with His Word.

The true foundation of our church rests upon the teachings of Jesus Christ. It is in His love, grace, and mercy that we find our purpose and calling as a community of believers. We must be vigilant in safeguarding this foundation and ensure that it remains unshakable, even in the face of external influences.

In 1 Corinthians 3:11, the apostle Paul reminds us, "For no one can lay any foundation other than the one already laid, which is Jesus Christ." This verse serves as a powerful reminder that our church's foundation is firmly established in Christ alone. It is His truth, His teachings, and His example that should guide our decisions and actions.

As we navigate the influence of major donors, we must guard our integrity as a church. We should never compromise our values, dilute our message, or divert from the path of righteousness for the sake of financial gain. Instead, let us remain steadfast in our commitment to God's Word and seek His guidance in all matters.

Our church should be known not for the size of our bank accounts or the grandeur of our buildings, but for our unwavering commitment to Christ, our love for one another, and our impact on the lives of those around us. We must strive to be a beacon of light in a world that often values money and power above all else.

Today, we have explored the influence of major donors and its potential impact on the true foundation of our church. Let us take this message to heart and continually evaluate our priorities, decisions, and actions as a community of believers. May we always remember that our allegiance is to God alone, and His Word should be our guiding light.

Next time, we will delve deeper into the importance of empowering every member of our church and promoting stewardship and accountability. May God bless you abundantly as we continue this journey together.
