A Word from the Vine No. 11: Growing in Christ: Nurturing Your Spiritual Life

Welcome back to another "Word from the Vine." Today, we'll be exploring the topic of spiritual growth and how we can continue to nurture our spiritual lives.

As Christians, we know that salvation is a free gift from God that cannot be earned or achieved through our own efforts. However, the Bible also emphasizes the importance of spiritual growth and the development of a mature faith.

In Colossians 2:6-7, we read, "So then, just as you received Christ Jesus as Lord, continue to live your lives in him, rooted and built up in him, strengthened in the faith as you were taught, and overflowing with thankfulness." This passage reminds us that while salvation is a one-time event, our faith journey is ongoing.

So, what does it mean to nurture our spiritual lives and grow in Christ? It starts with a commitment to spiritual disciplines, such as prayer, Bible reading, and worship. These practices help us to stay connected to God and cultivate a deeper relationship with Him.

But spiritual growth is not just about personal practices. It also involves being part of a community of believers who can encourage and support us on our faith journey. As it says in Hebrews 10:24-25, "And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds, not giving up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging one another—and all the more as you see the Day approaching."

Finally, spiritual growth involves a willingness to be transformed by the Holy Spirit. As Paul writes in Romans 12:2, "Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will."

In conclusion, nurturing our spiritual lives and growing in Christ is an ongoing process that requires commitment, community, and a willingness to be transformed. Let us continue to root ourselves in Him and strive toward spiritual maturity. Thanks for tuning in to this Word from the Vine, and we'll see you next time. I'm Pastor Loren Christensen.
