A Word from the Vine No. 112: Instructions and Warnings for the Disciples

Welcome to another episode of "A Word from the Vine." I'm Pastor Loren Christensen of Danish Countryside Chapel. It's a joy to gather together once again and delve deeper into the life-changing teachings of our Lord Jesus Christ. Today we embark on the second episode of this short series.

Let us turn to the book of Matthew, chapter 10, starting from verse 16 and continuing through verse 33. In this passage, we encounter a pivotal moment in the disciples' journey—a moment when Jesus imparts vital instructions and warnings as they set out to fulfill their mission.

Jesus begins by urging his disciples to be wise as serpents and innocent as doves. He recognizes the challenges they will face and the opposition they will encounter. But he encourages them to navigate these trials with a combination of wisdom and innocence—a delicate balance that reflects the character of our Heavenly Father.

Jesus warns his disciples that they will face hostility, persecution, and betrayal. Their commitment to the Kingdom of God will not go unnoticed. Yet, he assures them that they will never be alone in their struggles. God's divine presence will be with them, guiding their steps and providing them with the words to speak in moments of adversity.

Jesus emphasizes the value of perseverance, urging the disciples not to fear those who can harm the body but cannot touch the soul. He reminds them of God's infinite care for every sparrow and reassures them of their immense worth in His eyes.

In the face of opposition, Jesus assures his disciples that those who stand firm, who acknowledge Him before others, will be acknowledged by God in the heavenly realms. He reminds them that their faithfulness will be rewarded, even amidst adversity.

My dear friends, this passage holds timeless truths for us today. Just as Jesus instructed and warned his disciples, he speaks to us now, reminding us of the challenges we may face as we proclaim his name in a broken world. He encourages us to walk in wisdom and innocence, to persevere in the face of opposition, knowing that our Heavenly Father is with us every step of the way.

As we conclude this episode of "A Word from the Vine," let us hold fast to Jesus' teachings. Let us be wise, yet innocent, in our interactions with the world. And let us remember that our faithfulness and perseverance will never go unnoticed by our Heavenly Father.

Until next time, may the peace of Christ be with you always. Amen.
