A Word from the Vine No. 156: The Power of Surrender - Jesus' Example of Perfect Obedience

Welcome, dear friends, to the final episode of "A Word from the Vine." I'm Pastor Loren. Today, we delve into the heart of obedience as we explore the example of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Let's turn our attention to Matthew 26:39.

"And going a little farther, he fell on his face and prayed, saying, 'My Father, if it be possible, let this cup pass from me; nevertheless, not as I will, but as you will.'"

These profound words were spoken by Jesus in the Garden of Gethsemane, just hours before His crucifixion. As He faced the weight of the world's sin and the impending suffering that awaited Him, Jesus prayed to His Father. He expressed His human desire for the cup of suffering to be taken away, yet, in perfect obedience, He surrendered His will to the Father's plan.

Dear friends, the power of surrender is exemplified in Jesus' prayer. He demonstrated a willingness to set aside His own desires and submit to the will of the Father, even when it was difficult and agonizing. Jesus teaches us that obedience to God requires surrendering our own will and aligning it with the perfect will of our Heavenly Father.

In our own lives, we may encounter moments when we don't feel like obeying God. We may face challenges, hardships, or decisions that go against our natural inclinations. But it is in those moments that we can find strength and inspiration in the example of Jesus.

Surrendering to God's will means acknowledging His sovereignty and trusting that His plans are far greater than our own. It requires humility, faith, and a deep relationship with Him through prayer and the study of His Word. When we surrender our will to God's will, we allow Him to work in and through us, transforming our hearts and empowering us to obey Him in all circumstances.

The journey of obedience is not always easy. We may stumble, we may falter, but the Holy Spirit is with us, guiding us and providing the strength we need to persevere. It is through surrender and reliance on the Holy Spirit that we can find the power to obey God, even when our feelings and desires tempt us to do otherwise.

Ladies and Gentlemen, let us follow Jesus' example and surrender our will to God's perfect will. May we find strength in His sacrificial love, His unwavering obedience, and His victory over sin and death. Through surrender, may we experience the transformative power of obedience and become vessels of His love and grace in this world.

As we conclude this short, three-part series, I want to encourage you to continue seeking God's guidance in your daily life. Through prayer, study of His Word, and fellowship with other believers, may you grow in your obedience to Him, even when it's difficult. Remember, God's plans for you are greater than you can imagine, and He will provide the strength and wisdom you need to follow Him faithfully.

Thank you for joining us on this journey through "A Word from the Vine." May the Word of God continue to dwell richly in your hearts and may you walk in obedience to His call. Until we meet again, may God's grace and peace be with you always.
