A Word from the Vine No. 192: Embracing God's Grace

Greetings, my dear friends, my name is Pastor Loren Christensen, and welcome back to "A Word from the Vine."

As we bring this short, transformative series to a close, we turn our attention to a topic that lies at the heart of our Christian faith: the role of God's grace in our ongoing journey of transformation. It's through God's unmerited favor and boundless love that we find the strength to change, learn, and grow. But we must also consider how we can extend this same grace to others who are walking their own paths of transformation.

In Ephesians 2:8-9, the Apostle Paul reminds us, "For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast." Grace is the bedrock upon which our salvation and transformation stand. It is a divine gift that none of us can earn or deserve. This grace is not the result of our efforts or achievements but is freely bestowed upon us by our loving Creator. It is in this grace that we find the strength to change, grow, and become the people God intends us to be.

In 2 Corinthians 12:9, we hear the words of the Lord Himself: "But he said to me, 'My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.' Therefore, I will boast all the more gladly of my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may rest upon me." God's grace is not only the source of our transformation but also the power that sustains us in our weakness. When we acknowledge our limitations and imperfections, we open ourselves to the transformative work of God's grace. It is in our moments of vulnerability that His strength is made perfect.

Now, in Colossians 3:12-13, we find a profound call to action: "Put on then, as God's chosen ones, holy and beloved, compassionate hearts, kindness, humility, meekness, and patience, bearing with one another and, if one has a complaint against another, forgiving each other; as the Lord has forgiven you, so you also must forgive." Extending grace to others is not an option but a reflection of the grace we have received from God. Just as we have been forgiven, so too are we called to forgive. As we grow in our transformation, we must cultivate compassionate hearts, showing kindness and patience to those around us.

In conclusion, my dear friends, our journey of transformation is a lifelong endeavor. We are continually being shaped by God's unfailing love, our life experiences, and our willingness to learn and change. Let us embrace this journey with unwavering faith, knowing that God's grace is our constant companion on the winding road of transformation. And as we have received this grace, let us extend it generously to others, recognizing that they too are fellow travelers on the path to becoming more Christlike.

Thank you for joining me today. May God's grace be our guide and strength on this transformative journey.

Amen.
