A Word from the Vine No. 193: The Value of Community

Dear brothers and sisters in Christ, may God's grace and peace be upon you. My name is Pastor Loren Christensen of Danish Countryside Chapel in Exira, Iowa, and this is "A Word from the Vine." It's a joy to be with you today, and I want to express my gratitude for your presence as we gather, both physically and virtually, in the name of our Lord.

Today, we embark on a journey to explore a theme that is at the very heart of our Christian faith – the value of community. Just as Jesus welcomed the little children, we are called to cherish and support one another. Together, we form a spiritual family, a community of faith where we can lean on each other, learn from one another, and grow together.

The Scripture, as always, provides us with profound wisdom. In the book of Matthew, chapter 18, verse 20, we read these words of Jesus, "For where two or three are gathered in my name, there am I among them." This verse emphasizes the power of gathering in Christ's name. It reminds us that when we come together as a community of believers, Jesus Himself is present among us. What a beautiful and reassuring promise!

As we consider this verse, let us reflect on what it truly means to gather in the name of Jesus. It's not just about showing up at a place of worship; it's about coming together with open hearts, seeking His presence, and being willing to be instruments of His love in each other's lives.

The value of community is immeasurable. In our church, we're not just a group of individuals who happen to attend services together; we are a family united by our shared faith and our love for our Savior. In community, we find support during our trials, encouragement in our spiritual journeys, and joy in our celebrations.

When we gather for worship, for fellowship, for prayer, or for any shared purpose, we are participating in a sacred act. We are strengthening the bonds that hold us together as a community of believers. And in doing so, we are living out the teachings of Jesus, who encouraged us to love one another as He has loved us.

Friends, the value of community extends beyond our walls. It extends to our daily lives, our neighborhoods, and our interactions with the world. We are called to be ambassadors of Christ, sharing His love and grace with those we encounter.

As we go about our lives, let us remember that we are not alone. We have the support and prayers of our church family, and most importantly, we have the presence of Christ with us. Together, we can navigate life's challenges and celebrate its joys.

In closing, I want to encourage each one of you to embrace the value of community. Let us gather in His name, not just on Sundays but in our daily lives, and let us extend the love and support we find within our church to those around us.

May the Lord bless you and keep you, dear friends. Remember, you are loved, you are valued, and you are an essential part of our beautiful church family. In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen.
