A Word from the Vine No. 194: Seeking the Lost Sheep

Greetings, dear brothers and sisters in Christ, and welcome back to "A Word from the Vine." I'm Pastor Loren Christensen. May the peace and love of our Lord be with you as we gather once again to delve into God's Word and explore its profound teachings. Today, our hearts turn to the parable of the lost sheep, a story that holds great significance for us as followers of Christ.

In this second episode, we reflect upon the theme of "Seeking the Lost Sheep." This parable, found in the book of Matthew, chapter 18, verses 12 through 14, invites us to contemplate our role in reaching out to those who have strayed from the faith.

The parable goes like this: "What do you think? If a man has a hundred sheep, and one of them has gone astray, does he not leave the ninety-nine on the mountains and go in search of the one that went astray? And if he finds it, truly, I say to you, he rejoices over it more than over the ninety-nine that never went astray."

This simple yet profound story illustrates the heart of our Savior. Each of us is like one of those sheep, and Christ, our Good Shepherd, seeks after us when we stray. His love and compassion know no bounds, and He rejoices when even a single lost soul is found and brought back into the fold.

But this parable is not just about Christ's pursuit of us; it's also a call to action for us as believers. We are Christ's hands and feet in this world, and it's our duty to follow in His footsteps. We are called to search for those who have wandered away from the faith, just as Jesus did for us.

In our church community, there may be individuals who have drifted away, facing doubts, struggles, or hardships that led them astray. It's our responsibility to reach out to them, to extend a hand of love, understanding, and support. We are to seek the lost sheep, not with judgment, but with compassion and grace.

Seeking the lost sheep means being intentional in our outreach efforts. It means praying for them, reaching out with a phone call or a message, and showing them that they are missed and valued within our church family. Just as the shepherd left the ninety-nine to find the one, we should be willing to go the extra mile to bring our brothers and sisters back into the loving embrace of Christ.

Furthermore, this parable reminds us of the immeasurable worth of each soul. Every individual matters deeply to God, and we should never underestimate the impact of our efforts to seek the lost. One restored life is cause for great rejoicing in heaven.

As we conclude this episode, I encourage you to reflect on your role in seeking the lost sheep. Let us be vigilant, compassionate, and proactive in reaching out to those who may have strayed. Let us demonstrate the love and grace of Christ in all our interactions, knowing that through our efforts, we may help bring a wandering soul back to the fold.

May the Lord guide us and empower us to be faithful and diligent in seeking the lost sheep, for it is a sacred and joyous task that honors our Good Shepherd. In the name of Jesus, we pray. Amen.
