A Word from the Vine No. 287: The Fullness of Time - Understanding God's Perfect Timing

Greetings, beloved friends, and welcome back to "A Word from the Vine." I'm Pastor Loren Christensen of Danish Countryside Chapel, nestled among the hills west of Exira, Iowa.

Today, let's journey together into the profound depths of God's timing, a timing so precise and perfect that it transcends our human comprehension. Our anchor scripture today is from Galatians 4:4-5, which beautifully captures this divine orchestration: "But when the fullness of time had come, God sent forth his Son, born of woman, born under the law, to redeem those who were under the law, so that we might receive adoption as sons."

Isn't it astonishing to ponder how God, in His infinite wisdom, chose the exact moment in history to send His Son? The phrase "fullness of time" isn't just poetic; it's a testament to God's meticulous plan for humanity's redemption.

Let's pause and consider this: Throughout history, God was preparing the world for the arrival of His Son. From prophecies spoken centuries before to the intricate events shaping the Roman Empire, every detail was moving according to His divine timeline. When all was set, when the pieces fell perfectly into place, Jesus entered our world, not as a conqueror on a mighty steed, but humbly, born of a woman, under the very laws He would later fulfill.

Now, why does this matter to us today? Understanding God's perfect timing reveals three profound truths about His character:

  • God's Sovereignty: The fullness of time showcases God's rule over all creation. Even when events seem chaotic or unpredictable to us, they are part of His grand design. Every moment, every circumstance, is under His sovereign control, leading to the culmination of His redemptive plan through Jesus Christ.

  • God's Love: The timing of Jesus' arrival underscores God's immense love for humanity. He didn't send His Son impulsively or prematurely. No, He waited for the perfect moment, ensuring that His love would be displayed and received in the most profound way possible. Jesus' birth, life, death, and resurrection stand as the pinnacle of God's love, offering redemption and adoption into His family.

  • God's Plan for Redemption: At the core of this divine timing is God's unwavering commitment to redeem us. By sending Jesus "to redeem those who were under the law," God made a way for us to be reconciled with Him. Through Jesus, we receive adoption as sons and daughters, heirs to God's eternal kingdom.

Dear friends, as we navigate life's uncertainties, let's take solace in knowing that our times are in His hands. Just as God's perfect timing ushered in our salvation through Jesus Christ, He continues to work all things together for our good and His glory.

In closing, let's embrace the fullness of God's timing with gratitude and trust. May we rest in His sovereignty, rejoice in His love, and live out our divine purpose as adopted sons and daughters of the Most High.

Let us pray.

Heavenly Father, we stand in awe of Your perfect timing and unfailing love. Help us to trust Your sovereign plan, knowing that You work all things for our good and Your glory. May we embrace our identity as Your adopted children, living each day in gratitude and obedience. In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen.

Thank you for joining me today. May the peace and grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you always.
