A Word from the Vine No. 321: Jesus as the Son of Man

Greetings, dear friends. Pastor Loren here, and today, let's delve into a title that Jesus frequently used for Himself: "the Son of Man." Our guiding scripture for this exploration is found in Daniel 7:13-14, where a prophetic vision unfolds, revealing the divine authority and eternal kingship of the Son of Man:

"I saw in the night visions,

and behold, with the clouds of heaven

there came one like a son of man,

and he came to the Ancient of Days

and was presented before him.

And to him was given dominion

and glory and a kingdom,

that all peoples, nations, and languages

should serve him;

his dominion is an everlasting dominion,

which shall not pass away,

and his kingdom one

that shall not be destroyed."

As we journey into the depth of this biblical reference, it's crucial to grasp the significance of the title Jesus chose for Himself. "Son of Man" goes beyond a simple identification—it carries profound implications for understanding Christ's role in God's redemptive plan.

In Daniel's vision, we witness the Son of Man approaching the Ancient of Days. This imagery portrays an encounter that surpasses earthly dimensions. The Son of Man is granted dominion, glory, and a kingdom that will never end. This divine appointment underscores Jesus' authority, not just as a historical figure but as the eternal King with a reign that transcends time.

Now, how does this ancient vision connect with our understanding of truth? Jesus, by using the title "the Son of Man," invites us to recognize His unique role in the unfolding narrative of salvation. He is not merely a teacher or prophet; He is the divine King, the one granted eternal sovereignty by the Ancient of Days.

As we reflect on Jesus as the Son of Man, let's marvel at the profound truth that unfolds in Daniel's vision. May this exploration deepen our appreciation for the identity of Christ and lead us to a richer understanding of the eternal truth He embodies.
