A Word from the Vine No. 388: Living Courageously

Dear friends, welcome to the concluding episode of our short, three-part series on "A Word from the Vine." I'm Pastor Loren. Today, we embark on a journey into the heart of courage, exploring what it means to live boldly in a world consumed by fear. As we navigate the uncertainties of life, let us heed the timeless wisdom of Scripture and embrace the call to courage that God has placed upon our lives.

Look around you, my dear congregation. Everywhere you turn, there are voices whispering words of doubt and fear, seeking to paralyze us with uncertainty. But in the midst of the chaos, God's voice rings out clear and strong, commanding us to be strong and courageous (Joshua 1:9).

Consider the example of Joshua, called to lead God's people into the promised land. Faced with daunting challenges and formidable adversaries, he could have succumbed to fear and doubt. Yet, in obedience to God's command, he chose courage over cowardice, trusting in the Lord's promises and provision.

Think of the countless individuals throughout history who have faced adversity with unwavering courage. From the Great Reformer, Martin Luther, to Joan of Arc, these were not individuals who shrank back in the face of opposition; they were bold pioneers who dared to challenge the status quo and stand up for what they believed in.

Consider the biblical story of Esther, who risked her life to save her people from destruction. In the face of seemingly insurmountable odds, she chose to trust in God's providence and take a stand for righteousness. Her courage changed the course of history and serves as a timeless example for us all.

In times of trial and tribulation, where do we turn for strength? Do we rely on our own abilities, or do we trust in the Lord, who is with us wherever we go? The answer, my friends, is clear. True courage is found not in our own strength but in the presence and power of Almighty God.

Reflect on the words of David, who declared, "The Lord is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? The Lord is the stronghold of my life; of whom shall I be afraid?" (Psalm 27:1) Let us echo David's declaration and take refuge in the unshakeable confidence that comes from knowing God is with us.

As we bring this short series on "A Word from the Vine" to a close, I leave you with this challenge: Be strong and courageous, my friends, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go. Let us cast off the chains of fear and embrace the abundant life that God has called us to live. May we step out in faith, knowing that He who calls us is faithful, and He will give us the strength we need to overcome every obstacle. Amen.
