A Word from the Vine No. 395: Applying the Truth within Jesus' Prayer

Welcome to the seventh and final episode of our series on "A Word from the Vine," entitled "Eternal Intercession - The Unity, Sanctification, and Love of Christ's Prayer." I'm Pastor Loren, and it is my hope, dear brothers and sisters, that you may see the enduring truth in Jesus’ prayer in John 17. This prayer is not confined to the pages of Scripture or the distant past; it is a vibrant, living intercession that continues to resonate in the heavens. Jesus, our great High Priest, stands before the Father, advocating for us with the same fervor and love He expressed in the garden of Gethsemane. We are not mere observers of this prayer; we are participants, enveloped in its promises and called to its purposes.

We are beckoned to embrace the unity for which Jesus prayed—a unity that is not merely an ideal but a divine mandate. It is a unity that should permeate our churches, our families, and our very beings. In a world fractured by division, the church must stand as a beacon of oneness, reflecting the unity of the Father and the Son.

Sanctification, the process of being set apart and made holy, is not an instantaneous event but a lifelong journey. Through the truth of God’s word, we are transformed, day by day, into the likeness of Christ. This sanctification is both personal and communal, calling us to live out the holiness we profess, impacting the world around us.

The Father’s love, as revealed in Jesus, is not a distant or abstract concept. It is a profound reality that we are invited to experience and share. This love is the cornerstone of our faith, the bedrock of our hope, and the source of our strength. In this love, we find our identity as children of God, heirs to a kingdom that cannot be shaken.

As we stand in the shadow of this monumental prayer, let us carry its weight and its wonder in our hearts. May the unity for which Jesus prayed be the unity we seek and demonstrate. May the sanctification He desired be the transformation we pursue. And may the knowledge of the Father’s love, so graciously imparted to us through His Son, be the knowledge that compels us to love in return.

Let us not leave this place unchanged, but let us go forth as living answers to Jesus’ prayer. May our lives be a testament to the unity, sanctification, and love that He so earnestly sought for us.

And now, let us pray, echoing the eternal desires of our Savior:

Heavenly Father,

we stand in awe of Your majesty and grace. We thank You for Jesus, who not only bore our sins on the cross but also continues to intercede for us. Lord, make us one as You are one. Sanctify us in Your truth; Your word is truth. Help us to live in the fullness of Your love, to know it, to show it, and to grow in it each day.

May our unity be a witness to Your love and salvation. May our sanctification reflect Your holiness to a world in need. And may the love with which You have loved us be evident in all that we say and do.

We ask this not for our glory, but for Yours, now and forevermore. In the precious name of Jesus, we pray.

Amen.
