A Word from the Vine No. 413: Freedom from Bondage

Welcome back to “A Word from the Vine.” I’m Pastor Loren Christensen of Danish Countryside Chapel, and today we’re exploring a profound paradox: the freedom found in servitude to God. In our last episode, we examined the chains of slavery to sin. Now, let’s consider the liberating servitude that Peter speaks of in his first epistle.

1 Peter 2:16 reads, “Live as people who are free, not using your freedom as a cover-up for evil, but living as servants of God.” Here, Peter calls us to a higher standard of freedom—not as a license for wrongdoing, but as an opportunity to serve God wholeheartedly.

Jim Morrison’s view of enslavement may reflect the world’s bondage to materialism and vice. But the Bible presents a starkly different picture: to be a slave of God is to be truly free. It’s a freedom from the tyranny of sin, a release from the grip of our basest desires.

So, what does this mean for us? It means that in surrendering to God, we find true liberty. Our service to Him is not burdensome; it’s the very essence of freedom. For in serving God, we align ourselves with the ultimate purpose for which we were created.

As we close, let’s reflect on how we can live out this divine freedom in our daily lives. Let’s embrace our identity as God’s servants, finding joy and purpose in our submission to His will.

Join me next time for “Breaking Free,” where we’ll discuss the practical steps to living in the freedom Christ has secured for us. Until then, may you experience the peace and liberty that comes from being a servant of the Most High. God bless.
