A Word from the Vine No. 437: Stop Corrupting and Start Building Up

Welcome back to “A Word from the Vine.” My name is Pastor Loren, from Danish Countryside Chapel. Over the past few episodes, we’ve explored how living in truth, managing anger, and working honestly are essential aspects of our Christian walk. Today, we turn our focus to the power of our words and the responsibility we have as Christians to use them wisely.

Words have immense power. They can build up or tear down, heal or hurt. As believers, our speech should reflect the love and grace of Christ. Ephesians 4:29-30 reminds us, “Let no corrupting talk come out of your mouths, but only such as is good for building up, as fits the occasion, that it may give grace to those who hear. And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, by whom you were sealed for the day of redemption.”

Corrupt speech—whether it’s gossip, negativity, or harsh criticism—can cause significant harm. It not only affects those we speak about but also grieves the Holy Spirit. Our words are a reflection of our spiritual state. When we engage in corrupt speech, we undermine the unity and love that should characterize the body of Christ.

I challenge you to examine your speech. Are your words building others up or tearing them down? Are you spreading gossip or negativity? It’s time to consciously choose words that edify and encourage. Remember, our speech should be a source of grace to those who hear it.

Here are some practical tips to develop positive communication habits that align with Christian values:

  • Think Before You Speak: Consider the impact of your words before you say them. Will they build up or tear down?

  • Speak with Love: Let your words be motivated by love and compassion. Avoid harsh criticism and negativity.

  • Encourage Others: Make it a habit to encourage and uplift those around you. A kind word can make a significant difference in someone’s life.

  • Avoid Gossip: Refrain from spreading rumors or speaking negatively about others. Instead, focus on positive and constructive conversations.

  • Pray for Guidance: Ask God to help you use your words wisely and to give you the wisdom to speak in a way that honors Him.

By committing to positive and edifying speech, we can reflect the heart of God’s kingdom and strengthen the unity of the church. Our words have the power to bring grace and encouragement to those who hear them.

Thank you for joining me today on “A Word from the Vine.” Let’s commit to stop corrupting and start building up, using our words to reflect the love and grace of Christ. God bless you, dear friends.
