A Word from the Vine No. 447: Staying True to Our Mission

Hello, dear friends, and welcome back to another episode of “A Word from the Vine.” I’m Pastor Loren Christensen of Exira, Iowa's Danish Countryside Chapel, and today we’re diving into a theme that is crucial for every believer: staying true to our God-given mission. In a world full of distractions and challenges, it’s essential to remain steadfast in the purpose God has set before us.

Let’s turn to our key scripture for today, Isaiah 50:4-5:

The Lord GOD has given me the tongue of those who are taught, that I may know how to sustain with a word him who is weary. Morning by morning he awakens; he awakens my ear to hear as those who are taught.

In these verses, we see the importance of being prepared and taught by God. The Servant speaks of receiving the tongue of those who are taught, enabling him to offer words of comfort and encouragement to the weary. This preparation is not a one-time event but a daily discipline—morning by morning, the Lord awakens his ear to hear and learn.

Just as the Servant in Isaiah was prepared each day, we too must engage in daily spiritual preparation. This involves spending time in prayer, reading Scripture, and being open to the Holy Spirit’s guidance. It’s through these practices that we become equipped to fulfill our mission and offer support to those around us.

Let me share a brief story of someone who remained steadfast in their mission despite challenges. Consider the life of Abraham Lincoln, the 16th President of the United States. Lincoln faced numerous setbacks and failures throughout his political career, including losing multiple elections. Despite these challenges, he remained committed to his mission of preserving the Union and abolishing slavery. His perseverance and dedication were instrumental in leading the country through the Civil War and ultimately achieving the passage of the Thirteenth Amendment, which abolished slavery. Lincoln’s unwavering resolve in the face of adversity serves as a powerful example for us all.

I want to encourage each of you to spend time in prayer and Scripture daily. Allow God to awaken your ear each morning, teaching and preparing you for the mission He has set before you. Remember, it is through this daily discipline that we gain the strength and wisdom to stay true to our calling, even in the face of challenges.

Thank you for joining me today on “A Word from the Vine.” Stay tuned for our next episode, where we will continue to explore the themes of purpose and discipleship. Until then, may God bless you and guide you in your mission.
