Hello, I'm Pastor Loren, and welcome to "A Word from the Vine." Today, I want to talk about something that may challenge the way we think about wealth, money, power, prestige, and acclaim in relation to entering the Kingdom of God.
We all know that Jesus told a rich young man to sell all he had, give it to the poor, and follow Him to inherit eternal life. This story shows that Jesus values a person's heart over their worldly possessions. But does this mean that wealthy and powerful people can never enter the Kingdom of God? Absolutely not.
In Luke 18:27, Jesus says, "What is impossible with man is possible with God." This means that even the wealthy and powerful can enter the Kingdom of God, but it comes at a cost. Jesus makes it clear that we cannot serve both God and money. We have to choose one or the other.
In Matthew 19:24, Jesus says, "It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for someone who is rich to enter the kingdom of God." This statement can be interpreted in different ways, but one common understanding is that the rich can enter the Kingdom of God, but they must be willing to let go of their attachment to wealth and status.
Entering the Kingdom of God requires us to repent and turn away from our sinful desires, including the desire for wealth and power. In Mark 8:34-35, Jesus says, "Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross and follow me. For whoever wants to save their life will lose it, but whoever loses their life for me and for the gospel will save it."
So, to our friends who have always enjoyed wealth, money, power, prestige, and acclaim, I say this: entering the Kingdom of God requires us to surrender our lives to Jesus and put our faith in Him. It may require us to let go of some of our worldly possessions and desires, but in return, we receive the gift of eternal life and a deeper sense of fulfillment that cannot be found in money or power.
