Greetings, dear listeners, and welcome to “A Word from the Vine.” I am Pastor Loren Christensen, and today we conclude our short, four-part series with a discussion on living faithfully in a divided world. As Christians, we are called to live out our faith within the framework of society, balancing our spiritual commitments with our civic responsibilities.
Let’s begin with 1 Peter 2:13-14, which says, “Be subject for the Lord’s sake to every human institution, whether it be to the emperor as supreme, or to governors as sent by him to punish those who do evil and to praise those who do good.” This passage calls us to respect and be subject to human institutions as part of God’s provision. However, it is crucial to remember that our ultimate priority is our faith. We are to honor and obey authorities, but our allegiance to God must always come first.
Next, we turn to Jeremiah 29:7, which instructs us to “seek the welfare of the city where I have sent you into exile, and pray to the Lord on its behalf, for in its welfare you will find your welfare.” This verse encourages us to engage in our communities, bringing peace and goodness into the places where we live. As Christians, we are called to be active participants in society, working for the common good and seeking the welfare of our cities and neighborhoods.
How can we practically engage in local issues while holding onto our faith? Here are a few suggestions:
Volunteer: Offer your time and skills to local charities, shelters, and community projects.
Advocate: Speak out for justice and support policies that align with biblical principles of compassion and fairness.
Pray: Regularly pray for your community, its leaders, and its needs, asking God for wisdom and guidance in how you can make a difference.
As we wrap up this series, I encourage you to balance your faith with your civic responsibilities. Pray for wisdom and strength as you navigate this mission. Remember, we are called to be in the world but not of it, bringing the light of Christ into every corner of society.
Thank you for joining me on “A Word from the Vine.” May God bless you richly as you live out your faith in a divided world. Until next time, stay rooted in His word and His love.
