Good morning, friends! Welcome back to A Word from the Vine. I’m Pastor Loren Christensen from Danish Countryside Chapel, and I’m delighted to have you with me today. In our last episode, we talked about the importance of being in God’s presence. Today, we’re going to explore the theme of obedience in action.
Let’s read from Luke 2:47-50:
And all who heard him were amazed at his understanding and his answers. And when his parents saw him, they were astonished. And his mother said to him, "Son, why have you treated us so? Behold, your father and I have been searching for you in great distress." And he said to them, "Why were you looking for me? Did you not know that I must be in my Father's house?" And they did not understand the saying that he spoke to them.
Here, we see Jesus, a young boy, astonishing the teachers in the temple with His profound understanding and wisdom. But what stands out even more is His obedience. Despite being the Son of God, He honored Mary and Joseph by leaving the temple and returning home with them.
In our modern culture, obedience is often seen as a constraint. We are encouraged to follow our own paths and do things our way. However, Jesus teaches us that true devotion to God does not mean neglecting our earthly responsibilities. Obedience to God often manifests in our daily lives—through our faithfulness in our homes, workplaces, and relationships.
Consider the story of a man in our church who struggled with pride. He resisted God’s call to serve others and lead his family spiritually. For a long time, he chose his own way over God’s direction. But when he finally surrendered, he began leading devotions at home and actively participating in ministry. This act of obedience transformed his life. He found greater peace, a deeper sense of purpose, and stronger relationships because he put God first and chose to obey.
Let me remind you—obedience isn’t always easy. It often requires us to step out of our comfort zones and take actions that may seem daunting. Sometimes, it means taking a leap of faith without knowing the outcome. But when we walk in obedience, we align ourselves with God’s will, and He blesses our efforts.
So, what about us? Are we resisting God’s direction in our lives? Are we clinging to our own plans and desires? Or are we willing to follow God’s lead, even when it’s challenging? Let’s reflect on this and strive to embrace obedience, trusting that God’s plans for us are always for our good.
Thank you for joining me today on A Word from the Vine. I’m Pastor Loren, and I look forward to continuing this journey with you next time. Until then, may you find strength and peace in walking in obedience to God’s will.
